Email Marketing Pt 3

Three email providers compared

iContact, Constant Contact & Mailchimp all provide services for effective email marketing.

iContact and Constant Contact both provide excellent services for the dollar. They both provide a free trial, many custom templates, social media integration, excellent reporting options and decent customer support   Both provide both a good interface for the novice user and the opportunity for an experienced programmer to create customized emails. You can put out your first email quickly with either service.  The difference between them is that Constant Contact is more like the airlines that try to nick you with bag fees, extra for isle and window seats, early boarding, and all those other little fees that quickly add to the cost of the service. Constant Contact is always trying to nickel and dime you with add-ons that cost extra. The basic fees they charge are similar, with iContact just slightly less expensive. But generally the basic fees you pay at iContact cover everything, while at Constant Contact you end up paying extra for services that are standard in iContact.  Both have a basic charge of $15 per month or less for the 1st 500 contact email addresses.

Mailchimp also offers a no frills free account that works for small businesses. While lacking important features that companies like iContact and Constant Contact provide, it is a free option to consider if you can’t afford a full email marketing program. It does a good job for the price. And you will find their approach either entertaining or obnoxious. The free service gets the job done and who can beat FREE. It does not include features like autoresponders and other important features that iContact and Constant Contact offer, but you can upgrade to a paid plan from them if you decide you need those features. The reporting options are not as good as iContact or Constant Contact, but are still useful. Again who can beat FREE for lists of up to 2000 contact email addresses.
